Shakti Singh, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and internal medicine physician at Premier Gastro Care in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Singh believes in the value of the patient-provider relationship and, when taking care of her patients, considers herself 50% physician, 25% friend, and 25% therapist.

Dr. Singh was born in New York City and moved to India at age 5. She returned to New York after finishing high school and graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, New York, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Singh then earned her Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn.

She remained in New York City for her internal medicine internship at Beth Israel Medical Center before relocating to Los Angeles, California, for her residency training at Veterans Affairs (VA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. Dr. Singh then completed her fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Wadsworth Program.

After working for several years as a gastroenterologist in California, Dr. Singh relocated to Arizona. She chose to specialize in gastroenterology because of the gastrointestinal (GI) issues she faced as a teenager. Dr. Singh feels blessed to work in an era of better treatments for diseases like hepatitis C, chronic constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). 

Dr. Singh has advanced training in performing diagnostic tests and procedures, including colonoscopy, endoscopy, and motility and pH testing. 

Dedicated to advancing treatment options for her patients, Dr. Singh has participated in numerous clinical trials, evaluating the effectiveness of new treatments for a wide range of conditions like ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and IBS. Currently, her passion centers around women’s health and how hormones affect motility.
